Food is wonderful.  We need it for survival, but in the process of surviving we can also derive so much pleasure from every aspect of it.

Despite this, we as society today have a very unhealthy relationship with food, in the way that we disregard seasonality, basic humanity and the environmental aspects in the production of it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from perfect myself.  I’ve been known to buy offers in supermarkets even though the little voice in my head is telling me that my saving is probably at the expense of an exploited farmer.  I’ve bought strawberries out of season for a recipe that I just had to make.  And I’ve spent many a Saturday morning throwing away half-rotten vegetables from my fridge and out-of-date flour from my cupboard due to too many ‘tired’ evenings when the lure of an easy takeaway over-ruled my good intentions of donning my apron and knocking something delicious up from scratch.

But I’m doing my best to improve my respect of food, nature and animals on a daily basis and it occured to me that there were probably a lot of people out there who thought the same and would like to share ideas and opinions.  So, here I am, writing down my thoughts and ideas and inviting you to join the conversation.

From time to time, there are also other things I want to talk about on this blog, so don’t be surprised if some random about Poker, communications or just every day life pops up, with absolutely no link to food. That’s just me – a bit random.
